This Lit Chat Interview is a 60-minute program consisting of a 40-minute conversation between author Morgan Jerkins and interviewer Prof. Tammy Cherry followed by 20 minutes of audience Q&A. A book signing will follow, with books available for sale on site from San Marco Books and More.
The entrance for this program will be at 303 N. Laura St. Street parking around the Main Library is free after 6pm on weekdays, and parking in the Library Garage at 33 W. Duval St. is available for a fee.
Morgan Jerkins's most recent book is the novel Caul Baby, an Amazon Best Book of 2021. Her other books are Wandering in Strange Lands: A Daughter of the Great Migration Reclaims Her Roots, one of Time’s must read books of 2020, and This Will Be My Undoing: Living at the Intersection of Black, Female, and Feminist in (White) America, a New York Times Bestseller. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Vanity Fair, among others. She’s won two National Magazine Awards and was a Forbes 30 Under 30 Leader in Media.
Jerkins is also a filmmaker. Her debut short film, Black Madonna, which she wrote and co-directed, was selected at the Big Apple Film Festival, Pan African Film & Arts Festival, and NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. She teaches Creative Writing at Princeton University, where she also holds a Bachelor’s in Comparative Literature. She has an MFA from Bennington College, and has taught at Columbia University, Pacific University, The New School, and Leipzig University, where she was the Guest Picador Professor. Based in New York City, she was born and raised in New Jersey.

Registration is required for this event, and must be completed two hours prior to the start time. A library card and PIN are required for registration. If you do not have a card, click HERE to obtain one.

1. Seating for the program will begin at 6pm.
2. The maximum capacity of this venue is 80. Registered attendees will be seated first come, first serve. Bring your library card (physical or on the JaxLibrary app) for faster check-in.
3. Waitlisted attendees and walk-ins will be seated if seats are available. There may be a short wait as registered customers are seated.
4. All registered seats will be forfeited at 6:25pm and made available to waitlisted and walk-in attendees. Registered attendees arriving after this time will be seated if seats are available.
5. Standing room will be available when all seats are taken.
6. A limited number of books will be available for sale on site by San Marco Books and More. Guarantee a copy by pre-ordering from the San Marco Books website.
7. The author will sign books.
