Program Description: Join the Jacksonville Public Library and Hope Haven to watch the documentary Embracing Dyslexia followed by a presentation and Q & A with Dr. Laura Bailet.
Dr. Bailet earned her B.A. at Wake Forest University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University. She is a licensed school psychologist and assistant professor, College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic. She has expertise on a wide range of learning problems, including dyslexia and autism. She established and directed the Neurocognitive Assessment Program within the Division of Neurology at Nemours Children's Clinic for 18 years before creating the Nemours BrightStart! initiative. Dr. Bailet has conducted research and published numerous journal articles and book chapters. She has won numerous community awards and is currently a member of the Library of Congress Literacy Awards Board.
About the film: Embracing Dyslexia (51 min.) is a documentary film that will help educators and parents better understand dyslexia, explain why it is important for students struggling with reading, writing, and spelling to be screened for dyslexia as early as possible, and show how proper tutoring and classroom accommodations can give these students a chance at success, in the classroom and beyond.
This program will be followed by a Life Lab: Unlocking Dyslexia at 12:00 p.m. with strategies to understand educational approaches to dyslexia. Details and registration here.

Hope Haven is a local nonprofit whose mission is to ensure that children and families realize their full potential by providing specialized services and individualized educational opportunities.
Registration is required for this event, and must be completed two hours prior to the start time. A library card and PIN are required for registration. If you do not have a card, click HERE to obtain one.
