History Chat is a one hour program in which a lecturer speaks about a topic in local or national history followed by an audience Q&A session.
Program Description: Gustav Holst and Piotr Tchaikovsky are important figures in the world of classical music composition. Their music is a staple of concert halls across the globe. What is sometimes
overlooked is how their influence continues in the work of leading composers for cinema and multi-media.
Tony Steve is a prominent percussionist, composer, and music educator in Jacksonville. He is known for his work at Jacksonville University and with the Jacksonville Symphony, specializing in contemporary and world music, including composing for silent films. A multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience in orchestral, Broadway, and recording settings, he founded Tony Steve Music and is recognized for his innovative approach, blending classical training with modern and historical performance styles, particularly for silent cinema.
The program will be followed by a free musical performance, Music Inspired by Literary Giants, by the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville. Repertoire: Holst, Walt Whitman Overture; Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet; Menken, Selections from Aladdin; Selections from Les Miserables; Lord of the Rings--The Fellowship of the Ring Symphonic Suite (arr. Whitney)
The Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville will perform Music Inspired by Literary Giants after the History Chat.
