History Chat: From the Lodge to the Courtroom

Ansbacher Map RoomHistory Chat is a one hour program in which a lecturer speaks about a topic in local or national history followed by an audience Q&A session.
About the Program: Speaker Jerry Urso will discuss how Black lawyers, lawmakers, and Prince Hall Masons carved a path through slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and into the modern struggle for civil rights with an emphasis on Jacksonville leaders.
About the Speaker: Jerry Urso is the grand historian for The Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of Florida. A native of Massachusetts, he holds a master’s degree in history from Trinity College and comes from a long line of Masons. He earned a Fellowship to the Phylaxis Society. He is the Past President of the Alexander Darnes Research Chapter. Past President of Lux e Tenebris Research Society. A Member of the Jacksonville Historical Society and Florida Historical Society. He was a panelist for the Civil Rights Timeline for the City of Jacksonville and Lavilla Historian for the Downtown Investment Authority. He was awarded the Joseph A. Walkes award for his work on Prince Hall Masons and the Civil Rights Movement. He is also a Historian for the Real Rosewood Foundation and the July Perry Foundation. He is also a member of the Chi Rho Fraternity.
