The Jacksonville Public Library offers excellent resources for genealogical research for use in the library and/or from home. Life Lab programs are free workshops offered by trained professionals and volunteers that focus on improving your day to day life. These programs cover a wide range of workshops from gardening to small business needs.
FamilySearch.org – Demystified
This website is made up of many parts; each one is essential to the research of a genealogist. However, many have never heard of the site or have not used it to its greatest potential. Join us as we explore the wonderful possibilities! Topics discussed include: • The Library Catalog – an underused and misunderstood piece of greatness • Historical Books – tap into the Family History Archives digital collections • Historical Records – millions of records (indexes and digital images) going online for free • Searching the Research Wiki – free advice for the community • Using Full Text Search – a different way to find your ancestors • Finding Articles, Guidance, and Online Classes
About the Presenter: C. Ann Staley, CG®, CGL® is an educator and consultant. She is kept busy as the Membership Chair of the Genealogical Speakers Guild; as a volunteer of the Florida State Genealogical Society; and being on the faculty of The International Institute for Genealogical Studies. She has been an associate of the Board for Certification of Genealogists since 2000.
Her specialties are Methodology, Research Sources, Computer Resources, Vital Records and their Sources, and Conference Planning. Ann is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, Genealogical Speakers Guild, and the Florida State Genealogical Society.
Registration is required for this event, and must be completed two hours prior to the start time. A library card and PIN are required for registration. If you do not already have one, you can apply for a library card online.
All registered seats will be forfeited at 1:45 pm and made available to waitlisted and walk-in attendees. Registered attendees arriving after this time will be seated if seats are available.
