Spend time with author Brittany Jones and special guest Mayor Deegan as Jones talks about her brand-new book, Mike the Friendly Firefighter: The Wild Car Fire, based on real-life Jacksonville fire fighter, Mike Freeland! This event is intended for kids ages 5-12.
Brittany D. Jones is a new children’s book author and excited to bring young readers the “Mike The Friendly Firefighter,” children’s book series. Her series shares the stories about Firefighter Mike on his journey to save the day whether in or outside of uniform, inspiring children to always help someone in the time of need.
Jones has now woven her passion for storytelling into both the realms of literature and journalism. She’s an Emmy-nominated, Associated Press award-winning, and seasoned journalist with more than a dozen years of professional experience in news anchoring, reporting, hosting, and communications. Jones was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville with her Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and Broadcast Journalism.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Vice President of the Mike Freeland Foundation, a board member of Young Black and Widowed. Jones is inspired by this quote: “To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.” ― Victor Hugo
