This Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions program will discuss U.S.-China Relations with Richard Eason, Retired Foreign Service Officer.
Topic Description: Relations with China remain tense, with tariffs, military modernization, and pressure on Taiwan. Does Trump have a coherent China policy, and will his tariffs on Rare Earth minerals be effective? What are America’s strategic options?
Facilitator: Richard Eason served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer from 1984 to 2016, serving in nine foreign countries in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and South America. His assignments include: Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. 4th Fleet, Mayport Naval Station, Political-Economic and Political-Military Counselor, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Political-Economic Counselor, Brussels, Belgium, Economic Counselor, Amman, Jordan, Project Director, Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, Singapore, Energy Attache, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Economic Officer, Muscat, Oman. Other assignments include economic posts in Uruguay and in Aviation Affairs in Washington, D.C. and a consular tour in London, working on investor visas and the crash of Pan Am 103.
Mr. Eason is a native of Virginia and holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary and M.A.s from George Washington University and the U.S. Naval War College. He speaks Spanish, Arabic and French.
About Great Decisions:
Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book (optional), and meeting in a discussion group to discuss critical global issues facing America today. Each meeting begins with a video lecture on the discussion topic presented by Jeffrey S. Morton, the Pierrepont Comfort Chair in Political Science at Florida Atlantic University and a Fellow at the Foreign Policy Association and is followed by facilitator commentary and facilitator-led discussion.
Registration is required for this event, and must be completed two hours prior to the start time. A libary card and PIN is required for registration. If you do not have a card, click HERE to obtain one.
All registered seats will be forfeited at BLANK and made available to waitlisted and walk-in attendees. Registered attendees arriving after this time will be seated if seats are available.
